A Custom Install was an installation of the system software (Mac OS) where the installed items and components were picked by the user instead of the installer. Compared with an Easy Install, it was possible to install additional tools and items not often installed by means of an Easy Install. In the same vein, if an Easy Install installed too much, it was possible to install selected items instead of the entire lot as offered by the Easy Install (but only if the software to be installed came in parts which could be installed separately).
