About: Arriva Midlands route 9   Sponge Permalink

An Entity of Type : owl:Thing, within Data Space : 134.155.108.49:8890 associated with source dataset(s)

The 9 is a bus route previously operated by Chase Bus Services, and transferred to Arriva Midlands following their takeover in April 2007. The route was until November 2007 exactly the same as the National Express West Midlands service 333 from Lodge Farm-Walsall. Despite the 333 now going a slightly different route to serve the recently opened Tescos in Willenhall, the routes still compete for custom along the majority of the route. A long term diversion on routes 9 & 333X has lead to both services running via the Willenhall TESCO, due to the closure of Bentley Rd South.

The route was until November 2007 exactly the same as the National Express West Midlands service 333 from Lodge Farm-Walsall. Despite the 333 now going a slightly different route to serve the recently opened Tescos in Willenhall, the routes still compete for custom along the majority of the route. In 2011, following the Walsall & Wolverhampton Network Review, service 333 was renumbered as service 40, and withdrawn between Bradford Place, Pleck, Darlaston and Bentley, instead serving nearby Reedswood following the 340's route into Walsall, St Pauls Bus Station, leaving the 9 as the sole route between Bradford Place and Lodge Farm In 2012, Sandwell Travel introduced service 333X, a shortened derivative of the original 333, serving only Walsall-Willenhall, rather than the full route of Walsall-Wolverhampton, every hour Monday-Friday off peak. A long term diversion on routes 9 & 333X has lead to both services running via the Willenhall TESCO, due to the closure of Bentley Rd South. On October 26th 2014, service 9 was extended to Willenhall, The Red Lion via the same route as the 333X As of the 31st May 2015, all but one trip on the 9 were withdrawn, and replaced by the 333L between Walsall and Lodge Farm, and a lower frequency on the 333X, with the remaining 9 trip from Lodge Farm to Walsall at 0639 (Mon-Fri) and 0805 (Sat) becoming a 333, rather than a 9, to maintain continuity
