- The term "Yami" could mean a number of things:
* Yami Dark, from the Fanfictions by Evnyofdeath.
* Yami Tenebrae, whom is based off Yami Dark and appears in the 3rd War between Darkness and Light Serise by Blaid.
- Yami (lit. Darkness) is an organization of beings which came together, Shinigami, Quincy, and Arrancar alike, with the soul purpose of replacing the Soul Society's government, by any means neccesary. The organization was founded and is still led by Seke Miyamoto, shortly after he defected from the Soul Society.

- Yami was born in an island village where ninja and there ways/abilities are considered evil. As she grew a bit older it was revealed that she was born with a unique, randomly acuring Kekkei Genkai that allows her to pass through solid matter at will. The village elders deemed the child a curse and ordered she be killed. Upon hearing this Yamis parents fled in order to protect her. They were found and executed, leaving Yami to fend for herself. She survived by stealing food and clothes from the village at night. These activities rewarded her the title of Maboroshi, Phantom, and she has come to know this as her name Maboroshi no Yami.
- At first glance, Yami appears to be a mechanical sphere covered in arcane, Moon Tribe-like markings. As shown when Amaterasu fights the Lord of Darkness in the Ark of Yamato, the sphere is capable of altering itself into different forms, including disc-shaped platforms, a slot machine, a humanoid figure with whip-like arms and a giant clawed hand. Each transformation appears to change the shape and colors of the markings on Yami's body. Yami's true form is that of a small black fish contained in a glass ball full of water. Its body bears markings similar to Amaterasu's, but colored blue instead of red. This form is usually hidden within the larger mechanical sphere, and serves as Yami's primary weak point during the battle.
- __NOWYSIWYG__ Yami (「常闇ノ皇」?; Tokoyami no Sumeragi; Emperor of Everlasting Darkness) is the main antagonist of Ōkami, and considered Amaterasu's archenemy. Found on the Ark of Yamato, he is the final boss of the game.

- When in Australia, Cassie stays with an Aboriginal boy around her own age named Yami. Yami takes her in, and in exchange Cassie helps his sick grandfather. Yami also becomes a sort of surrogate "boyfriend" for Cassie, although it is mostly Cassie's emotional need for someone strong to rely on that lets her "cheat" on Jake. - Golden Darkness (金色の闇 Konjiki no Yami?), mostly referred to by other characters as Yami, is a major character in To Love-Ru and To Love-Ru Darkness. She is a lonely assassin who is initially hired by Lacospo, one of Lala's arranged suitors, to kill Rito Yuuki. But when Lacospo effectively annuls the job, she decides to take her time and, under the pretense of still needing to complete her mission to kill Rito, stays on Earth. As she spends more time on Earth, she builds a very strong relationship with Rito's mature younger sister, Mikan Yuuki and to Rito himself, whom she also develops feelings for.

They were children of Surya, the Sun god, in his form as Vivasvat, and his wife Saranya. She is also known as Yamuna. Another name for Yami is YāmīnĪ, which means 'night' in Sanskrit. She is often depicted black in colour, riding her vahana, a tortoise. She is the Goddess of river Yamuna. The river Yamuna is also connected to the mythology surrounding the Hindu god Krishna.
