The 2000 Dura Lube 300 Sponsored by Kmart was a Winston Cup Series (now Sprint Cup) event held at New Hampshire International Speedway on September 17, 2000. Following the tragic deaths of Kenny Irwin and Adam Petty at the track, NASCAR officials decided to put restrictor plates on the cars. Despite the safety of this design, it was, as NASCAR admitted quickly, a big mistake. Jeff Burton took advantadge of the fact that passing was impossible, seeing as he started on the outside pole, led all 300 laps and held off Bobby Labonte. It was the last time (to this day) that a driver has led wire-to-wire in a Cup event. With his runner-up finish Bobby Labonte extended his points lead, now holding at 168 markers on Burton.
