Sanderstead is an area in the London Borough of Croydon. The area was originally a rural village in Surrey. The parish formed part of Croydon Rural District until 1915 when it was included in the newly-formed Coulsdon and Purley Urban District. In 1965 the urban district became part of the the London Borough of Croydon in Greater London. It forms one of the wards for elections to Croydon London Borough Council. The ward had a population of 11,937 in 2001. It is represented by three councillors, all members of the Conservative Party.
