The yeenx sandfly was a species of biting fly native to Tatooine. They were solitary, unlike their cousins, the Tatooinian normal fly, which were known to swarm. For centuries, the species was mistaken for the Tatooinian normal fly. But, it was discovered in 26 BBY by the Ruurian scholar, Yeenx, that they were indeed a separate species. They were then classified as the yeenx sandfly, a related, but entirely separate species. They had many natural predators on Tatooine but because they did not swarm they often went unnoticed. There were cases when the yeenx sandfly would join the Tatooininan normal fly swarm, leading some biologists to speculate that there was an existing hybrid between the two species but none had been found as of 74 ABY.
