The unnamed Old Lady was feeding ducks in the park when Irma Barlow wheeled in a baby in a pram and sat for a while on a bench. The lady had a look at the infant at Irma's invitation and said how lovely he was, and then walked on. She had little idea that Irma, in a confused state after the death of her own baby, Darren three months before, had stolen the child in his pram from outside the post office on Hopwood Street.
