Easterlings, commonly known as the Men of Darkness, were a race of Humans who lived in the vast and uncharted lands of Rhûn, east of Mordor and the Sea of Rhun. Easterlings were enemies of the Free Peoples and were allies of Sauron. There were many different nations and kingdoms of Easterlings living in the vast lands of Rhûn. These ranged from civilized empires to barbaric horse nomads of the open steppes.

- Easterlings are the Men of Rhun, one of the 4 corrupted Man-kingdoms near Mordor. They are an elite outfit of soldier sent in by Mordor to fight in brutal battles against the elite forces of good (namely the dwarves). They wear chain mail vests underneath their seemingly ceremonial garb. In war they ride horses, make use of halberds, scimitars and bows. (Although in game they only use halberds without the axe head at the end).

- Easterlings are permanent reinforcements that come from the distant lands of to serve Mordor. They can be summoned on the edge of the map by unlocking and using the spellbook power "Reinforcements of Rhun" (3pp). They will then enter the map alongside Rhun Halberdier Warriors. They are the elite pikemen of Mordor, effective more through their numbers than their stats since Halberdiers of Cirith Ungol are statistically more powerful (but are capped to a maximum of 3 battalions). They are powerful enough to resist many units and can even withstand the fury of certain weaker .
- Easterlings (S.Rhúnedain Q. Rómenildi or Hrónatani) was a vague term for the wild tribes of eastern Middle-Earth. In the First Age the name was applied to the Peoples of Bor and Ulfang in Beleriand, the first ones who were faithful to the Eldar, the latter ones who were traitors and in secret allegiance with Morgoth became known as the "Wolf-folk". The surviving Easterlings fled back in their eastern homelands after the drowning of Beleriand and became rulers of the indigenous tribes, most of whom were their distant kinsmen, among these men were the original populace of the Lands surrounding the Rhûnaer but also men north of Eriador who possibly were the ancestors of the Lossoth and the Angmarrim.
