Dipak Gandhi is part-owner of the record store where Sam Tyler first runs into Leslie Roy. He turns out, through the convolutions of time, to be the father of Maya Roy. Dipak and his brother fled to Manchester to escape the brutal regime of Idi Amin in Uganda. Once settled in their new home, the brothers sought to retrieve what they could of their former possessions by having them smuggled out of Uganda. Unfortunately, they ran afoul of Mancunian underworld taxes, in the form of Toolbox and his associates. The brothers' smuggling operation proves highly convenient for the movement of heroin, and the sharks begin to circle. Dipak is essentially way out of his depth, and his flailing endangers those around him.
