The 2016 Math Hurricane Season was a renamed version of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, that used math terms as names for the Hurricanes, creating a friendly study guide. The season used 48 different terms, because there were 48 named storms in this season, bypassing the record set in the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The NHC was not given a math-themed name for the season, however math teachers across the country were hired to track the hurricanes, replacing the usual NHC Hurricane Trackers. The season was still tracked from Miami, Florida, but the city of Miami did rename itself "Pi City" in honor of the event. The season also had Tropical Depressions use the letter "X" instead of "E" after depression numbers, in honor of the common math variable X.
