The series was created by Adam Sztykiel and is based on the book Undateable: 311 Things Guys do That Guarantee They Won't be Dating or Having Sex by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle. On May 13, 2016, NBC canceled the series after three seasons. On January 6, 2017, The AMN ordered a fourth season consisting of 13 episodes. Bridget Mendler will not starring as Candace for the first few episodes of Season 4. On February 11, 2017, it was announced that the Season 4 premiere would be broadcast live similar to episodes 7 & 8 of Season 2 and the complete Season 3.
