The previous Canadian Professional Hockey League became the International Hockey League in 1929. A new Canadian Professional Hockey League was formed which was both a farm league for the new International League and a way for professional players in Ontario to make some money. This new league only lasted one season. It became the Ontario Professional Hockey League (1930-31) the following season.
