  • A space warp is a temporary space phenomenon caused by rare large concentrations of antigraviton particles which are able to distort space, much like normal gravity. Artificially, this is created also by a sufficiently large matter/antimatter reaction, taking place in space far removed from any strong gravity fields; otherwise, gravitic distortion will prevent the warp ever closing at all, exposing the ship to the force of the reaction. The gravitic mines use the principles of a space warp offensively, in order to engulf a target in the "well" and annihilate it to the subatomic level.
  • The United Federation of Planets uses warp drive as its primary FTL drive, though some starships have been upgraded with Quantum Slipstream drives as of the 2380s. On Earth, warp drive was initially invented by Zefram Cochrane. (Star Trek franchise: Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, etc.) The Ancients also may have used some form of warp drive before the discovery of Hyperspace travel. The Destiny was using an unspecified form of FTL travel. (Stargate franchise: "Stargate Universe")

The Morvan Drive sets a powerful, but tightly focused matter-antimatter reaction, generating enough antigravitons to create a localized space-time warp which is sealed by subspace. If a ship is correctly positioned at the very edge of the reaction's event horizon, it can hop across space instantaneously (usually 20% to 35% of a light-year away). The gravitic mines use the principles of a space warp offensively, in order to engulf a target in the "well" and annihilate it to the subatomic level.

On Earth, warp drive was initially invented by Zefram Cochrane. (Star Trek franchise: Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, etc.) The Kryptonians had access to warp drive, though by the destruction of their planet, it was no longer used as they had eschewed space travel. However, Jor-El, a prominent scientist, was able to build a prototype starship in his lab to send his baby son, Kal-El, to Earth with a warp drive. During that voyage, the ship's warp drive also warped nearby chunks of Kryptonite from the destroyed planet to Earth. (Superman franchise: Superman comics) The Ancients also may have used some form of warp drive before the discovery of Hyperspace travel. The Destiny was using an unspecified form of FTL travel.
