Jefferson vs Christophe was an controversial Supreme Court ruling in 1804 between incumbent President of the United States Thomas Jefferson and Governor of the Hispaniola Henri Christophe, which stated that slave owning in the Hispaniola Territory is illegal, and violators of the law will lead to execution via firing squad. The ruling angered southern slave owners, and was praised by the Haitians and the people in the North, who outlawed slavery.
