Aldburg (OE. 'Old Fortress') was one of the oldest settlements of Middle-earth, in Rohan. It was recorded to have been built by Eorl in the region known as the Folde, some miles to the southeast of Edoras. Though he and his family moved to Edoras early in Rohan's history, Aldburg remained a seat of noblemen. At the time of the War of the Ring, it was the home of King Théoden's nephew Éomer, who was Third Marshal of the Mark, and heir of the Kingship of Rohan himself. In the Lord of the Rings book-series, Aldburg is never referenced to, and doesn't appear on the maps.

Omdat de bouw van de Gouden Hal van Medusuld nog niet voltooid was woondde Eorl de Jonge in deze stad. Zijn zoon, Brego, voltooide de bouw en de Koningen van Rohan woonden voortaan in Edoras, dat nu de hoofdstad werd. Toch bleven er nog vele nobele mannen van Rohan in deze stad wonen, het was het huis van de Derde Maarschalk van de Mark en dus ook van Éomer, hij werd later zelf Koning van Rohan.

- Aldburg, in der Folde (Rohan), ist eine der ältesten Städte Rohans und lag im Bezirk der Ostmark. Sie war die erste Hauptsadt von Rohan und ein Teil der Königlichen Lande. Sie wurde 2510 D.Z. gegründet. Eorl der Junge hatte dort als erster König Rohans seinen Wohnsitz, bis dessen Sohn Brego den Herrschaftssitz 2545 D.Z. nach Edoras verlegte, wo er die Goldene Halle Meduseld erbaute. Éofor, Sohn von Brego, lebte nun in Aldburg. Auch seine Nachfahren lebten in Aldburg, so auch Éomer.
