It is one of the leafiest parts of town with large villas, both Victorian and new as well as more affordable bungalows, mostly built in the inter war years. There was a council estate built in the early 1960s along North Road which consisted of ten 5 storey tower blocks and terraced housing. The tower blocks have all since been demolished.
