The Catalonia national football team is the official football team of Catalonia. It is organised by the Catalonia Football Federation. The team has been referred to by various names including Selecció Catalana (Catalan Selection), Selecció de Barcelona (Barcelona's Selection) and the Catalan XI. Catalan players, besides playing in their national team, must also play for Spain if they are required to do so. Since 1904, therard team has played nearly 200 games against various national, regional and club teams. Since 1997 they have played international friendly games more regularly. Among the teams they have played are Nigeria, Brazil and Argentina. Recent friendly games include a 4–2 win over Argentina at Camp Nou in December 2009, and a 4–0 win over Honduras in December 2010. They played in Cornellà-El Prat against Nigeria in January 2013. The game finished in a 1-1 draw and concluded Dutch great Johan Cruyff's stint as coach of the Catalonia national selection. Their recent matches are against Cape Verde on 30 December 2013, winning 4-1; against Basque Country in San Mamés Stadium on 28 December 2014, finishing in a 1-1 draw, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first match played against this team, on 3 January 1915; against Basque Country again on 26 December 2015, with a 0-1 loss; and They against Tunisia on 28 December 2016, with a 3-3 draw, losing 2-4 in the penalties.
