Hoagland Howard "Hoagy" Carmichael (Bloomington (Indiana), 22 november 1899 – Rancho Mirage (California), december 27, 1981) was an American composer, pianist, singer, actor, and bandleader. He was especially acknowledged with his compositions "Stardust", "Georgia On My Mind", "The Nearness of You", and "Heart and Soul", four of the most recorded American songs of all time. He also starred in 14 films. During the second world war he wrote many songs for entertainment of the American military, as "Cranky Old Yank", "Eager Beaver" and "No More Toujours l'Amour". In 1988, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
