One of the most famous defenders, Lowbacca, fought for four hours in front of the temple gate, surrounded by seventeen fallen comrades, killing two hundred stormtroopers before being gunned down. Luke Skywalker and seven other Jedi escaped the massacre. Two entire legions of Imperial troops would never return to duty.
