Kukulkan was the feathered serpent god in the religion of the Maya. The image of Kukulkan was etched into the small recesses of the doorway of the Pyramid of the Sorcerer at Uxmal. Indiana Jones found the etchings, and inserted the Four Mayan Figurines to open the doorway to the Akashic Hall of Records in 1941.

  • Because of the extreme mortality rate associated with Hypnotic Gaze, Kukulkan is usually straight-tanked with slow-hitting, high-damage weapons until he starts readying his OverDrive. His normal attacks have fairly low accuracy, however the status effects from his gaze attacks need to be taken into account - it is best to have a permanently-blinded healer who will remove status effects from other characters.

All of them can be permanently blinded throughout the battle, and hence be immune to Kukulkan's gaze attacks, without loosing any damage-dealing capacity, unlike meelee damage dealers. When Kukulkan starts readying his OverDrive, the party will flee (note that you will have to overcome Kukulkan's high agility when you attempt to do so) and re-engage after the 'glow' effect around the enemy wears off. At this point, his HP will be reduced by 5% as a side effect of using his OverDrive.

Indiana Jones found the etchings, and inserted the Four Mayan Figurines to open the doorway to the Akashic Hall of Records in 1941. A temple with a large statue of Kukulkan was hidden below a Mayan city complex on the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. The statue, at the center of a large calendar stone that told the origins of Kukulkan and the story of the K'iche Maya tribe, actually housed a shaft that dropped into an underground river which flowed out to the sea. Indiana Jones discovered the temple and accidentally traveled down the river in 1957.

Little is known of the mythology of this pre-Columbian deity. Although heavily Mexicanised, Kukulkan has his origins among the Maya of the Classic Period, when he was known as Waxaklahun Ubah Kan (/waʃaklaˈχuːn uːˈɓaχ kän/), the War Serpent, and he has been identified as the Postclassic version of the Vision Serpent of Classic Maya art. The cult of Kukulkan/Quetzalcoatl was the first Mesoamerican religion to transcend the old Classic Period linguistic and ethnic divisions. This cult facilitated communication and peaceful trade among peoples of many different social and ethnic backgrounds. Although the cult was originally centred on the ancient city of Chichén Itzá in the modern Mexican state of Yucatán, it spread as far as the Guatemalan highlands. In Yucatán, references to the deity Kukulkan are confused by references to a named individual who bore the name of the god. Because of this, the distinction between the two has become blurred. This individual appears to have been a ruler or priest at Chichen Itza, who first appeared around the 10th century. Although Kukulkan was mentioned as a historical person by Maya writers of the 16th century, the earlier 9th-century texts at Chichen Itza never identified him as human and artistic representations depicted him as a Vision Serpent entwined around the figures of nobles. At Chichen Itza, Kukulkan is also depicted presiding over sacrifice scenes. Sizeable temples to Kukulkan are found at archaeological sites throughout the north of the Yucatán Peninsula, such as Chichen Itza, Uxmal and Mayapan.

It was proven in the video game Star Trek: 25th Anniversary that Kukulkan and Quetzalcoatl were two different individuals. He visited Earth in the distant past, and was instrumental in the technological and architectural advances of the Egyptian, Mayan, and Aztec civilizations. He also taught them new techniques in art and agriculture. He hoped that they would combine this knowledge to complete Kukulkan's city so the civilizations could live in peace and he would return to Earth. However, none of the civilizations built the city exactly as Kukulkan had designed. (TAS episode: "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth")
