| - The Ardus-class stealth ship was a vessel originally conceived by Galactic Republic scientists but eventually utilized by the Empire of the Hand for long-range independent operations, which mainly meant the harassment of commercial shipping and raiding trade routes. Re-designed and built by Yaga Minor Shipwrights, Inc. and named after Grand Moff Ardus Kaine, the class featured a large amount of Hoersch-Kessel modules, such as the computers and the propulsion systems. Manufactured exclusively for the Empire of the Hand, it first saw use in 8 ABY, with the onset of Thrawn's campaign, when it was tested on captured New Republic vehicles. From the second half of the year, the Ardus-class was used in large numbers for jeopardizing traffic along the Hydian Way and other trade routes. Because of its role as a hit-and-run attack craft, it only had lightweight armor and low-energy shields, but heavy armament for its size. Created to excel in rapid strikes, raids on merchant ships and outposts, the class featured powerful engines and weaponry, but its true strength lay in its state-of-the-art cloaking device. This system was invented on Bastion and was considered to be top secret information by the Imperial Armed Forces. It provided invisibility to both the naked eye and sensors, although the ship had to reveal itself when attacking. Nevertheless, its wraithlike, imperceble appearance, combined with speed and firepower made the vessel an effective psychological weapon as well as a capable anti-freighter unit. When the Ardus-class was first used, it had no comparable craft neither in the New Republic navy nor in that of the reborn Emperor. Palpatine, in fact, considered the weapon so effective that he ordered his special forces to acquire at least one unit. However, after the T-65XS X-wing antistealth fighter was introduced, the class soon suffered casualties, although initially there were only a few fighters to combat the stealths. By 10 ABY, however, the widespread manufacture of the T-65XS fighters made the usage of the Ardus-class a mere dream.
