A subspace particle storm was a spatial meteorological phenomenon of destructive potential. In 2353, Erin and Magnus Hansen encountered a subspace particle storm in the Delta Quadrant, while conducting a field study of the Borg Collective aboard their vessel, the USS Raven. The storm caused their multi-adaptive shielding, the technology they developed to stay invisible to Borg sensors, to go offline for 13.2 seconds, long enough for the cube they were shadowing to detect them and consider them a threat. The Borg subsequently pursued and assimilated the Hansens. (VOY: "Dark Frontier")
