They were experimental ship, with only nine ever having been produced, including the Tyaonon Ranger. Like its name would suggest, from the stathas creature it is named for, the Stathas used a harmless appearance to hide its deadly capabilities. They were able to challenge most starfighters, including the Galactic Empire's TIE/ln starfighters with their quad laser cannons, while being tough enough to take a harsh beating from the weapons found on even the most modern of starfighters.
