  • Patrick Rudder was an Alliance Special Forces officer who commanded Company A, 4th Special Forces Regiment (Rangers), 5th Special Forces Division. Born on Alderaan and initially a staunch Imperialist, Patrick received extensive training from the Imperial Storm Commandos, but his allegiance was broken following the destruction of his homeworld by the Death Star. Defecting, he found a new home in the Alliance Special Forces, and took command of Company A following the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY. Early in 4 ABY, Patrick was sent to Exaron to meet with a Bothan spy named Gath Laons'hir and retrieve data deemed vital to the survival of the Alliance, though the Bothan would not reveal what the intelligence was. Upon reaching the planet, Patrick and his team ambushed and destroyed an Imperial patrol before meeting up with Gath's partner who told them Gath had been captured and was being held in a nearby facility. Patrick followed the Bothan to an Imperial bunker in the forest, only to be betrayed and subsequently surrounded by a group of Imperial Stormtroopers. Patrick's 15-man detachment was horribly outnumbered, but they went down fighting, all dying save for Patrick, who was wounded and captured. The Imperials transported Patrick back to Vratokh, the planet's capital, but fortunately for the SpecForce officer, news of his capture had been widely broadcast as propaganda material, and a local dissident cell had learned of it. They ambushed the convoy carrying Patrick and broke him free, taking him back to their hideout and informing him of their plight. They had been formed by an Alliance team almost ten years prior, but when the Imperials cracked down on Exaron, they had been cut off and had not had any Alliance contact for a decade. Patrick struck a deal with them: if they helped him retrieve the intelligence and get off-world, he would inform the Alliance of their situation and bring in aid. The leader of the cell, Archibald Bishop, tasked Patrick initially with heading out to an old communications station and bringing it back online, a task he would accomplish with the help of a Zeltron cell member named Dela Xioxi and three others. Patrick agreed, and introduced himself to the small team. Dela was rough and distant towards the Rebel officer, but they agreed to work together and headed into the forest towards the comm station. Unfortunately, they were tracked by a team of Imperial Storm Commandos, who ambushed them at the station. The three other cell members were killed, but Patrick was able to knock out one of the Commandos in hand-to-hand combat, allowing he and Dela to escape back to the cell's hideout. Back at the hideout, Patrick confronted Bishop that the only way the Imperials could have ambushed them was if there was a mole within the cell. Bishop agreed that it was possible, but wanted to be certain before making any moves to discover the possible mole. He set up another mission to be accomplished, this one to set a series of sensors out in the forest, and put a new team on it. Meanwhile, Patrick would follow them some distance behind and see if there were any Imperials overwatching the teams, and deal with them in turn. The team took off, and Patrick followed them out to the forest on a speeder bike. As the team neared their objective, Patrick went in a different direction, dismounted, and approached on foot, coming across an observation point of two Scout Troopers watching the cell's team. Patrick killed one with his combat knife and subdued the other one, taking him to a nearby abandoned shack for interrogation. He contacted Dela, who informed him that another member of the cell had independently discovered that there was a mole: a young slicer named Nara. Patrick made the decision to have Dela bring Nara out to the shack, to be present for the interrogation. What followed was a brutal interrogation where Patrick not only beat the Scout Trooper, but also fired two blaster bolts into the Trooper's legs, finally getting information about Gath, namely that the Imperials had taken him back to the Imperial Citadel in Vratokh for interrogation. Deeming that the man knew nothing else, Patrick knocked him out and then spoke with Nara, who, though visibly shaken by the interrogation, was able to tell Patrick about data she had uncovered that showed that all of the cell's activities were being monitored. Patrick in turn asked her to continue running everything as normal, but to run a subroutine under the surface to try to trace the mole's activities. Nara agreed, and she and Dela departed back to begin the plan. Patrick was left contemplating what to do with the wounded Scout Trooper, when he was radioed by his sniper team, Staff Sergeant Linhoros and Sergeant Galkin, who had not been in the initial firefight and had evaded Imperial pursuit in the forest. Patrick tasked the two with the occasional care of the Scout Trooper and returned to the cell's hideout.
