Synopsis
  • Traveling to Georgia in order to clear his name for the Fort Charlotte massacre, and his arrival soon becomes news to Quentin Turnbull. Turnbull arranges Hex being captured and brought before a "trial" composed from former members of the Confederate army, including survivors of the Fort Charlotte Massacre. Hex is found "guilty" and sentence to death and is locked up in Turnbull's shed to be executed in the morning. Hex manages to free himself by breaking his binds with a pitch fork. Hex tries to make his escape but is confronted by Quentin's butler Solomon, and later Quentin himself. Hex manages to disarm them with the pitchfork, however when Quentin tells Hex to kill him and be done with it, Hex refuses to do so and tosses the pitchfork aside. Refusing to accept Hex's explanation for his sons death, Turnbull lunges at Hex, and when Hex moves out of the way Quentin is impaled on the pitchfork and dies. Hex leaves Solomon behind to mourn the loss of his employer.
quotation
  • Jonah Hex, you have been charged with treason and other high crimes against the Confederate States of America in that, in the month of January, 1863, you did willfully and treacherously betray the members of your platoon into the hans of the enemy... and shortly thereafter cause them to be annihilated almost to a man by deliberately leading them into a Union ambush you had helped to prepare!
