Gentamicin is an antibiotic. It treats a wide variety of bacteria but is usually used to treat those types without a cell wall (gram negative). It cannot be administered orally and must be injected into a muscle or vein. It's primary side effect is damage to hearing and the balance mechanisms of the inner ear.
