| - Canden is Theocandi's grandson. He becomes friends with Jame and Dally, and they become a trio. Jame first sees him when she enters Tai-tastigon, a few hours before the Feast of Dead Gods begins, waiting while two men attack Penari. She sees him again, in Theocandi's quarters on the night she joins the Thieves' Guild. She meets him properly when he comes to the Res aB'tyrr. Then he explains to her that it was all a trick, that Theocandi came up with. Then attackers would wouldn't have actually hurt Penari, and Canden was supposed to "save" him, winning his gratitude and a chance to become his apprentice. Canden didn't want to do it, but Theocandi didn't care. Canden doesn't want to be a thief at all, but given that he is the Sirdan's grandson, he is by many considered his successor, because Bane—his only student—was forced on him by Abbotir. Canden becomes close friends with Jame and Dally. Dally is suspicious of him at the very beginning, more out of a sense of obligation to Men-dalis than any actual mistrust. They soon become almost brotherly. Canden is fascinated by the past. When Quipun begins organizing an expedition to search for the lost city of Tai-than, Canden is very interested and wants to be part of it. Quipun gives him the job of collecting maps, much to Canden's delight. When it comes time for the expedition to depart, Quipun invited him to come. Canden wanted to go, but Theocandi would not let him. Uncertain, he turned to Jame for guidance, and she urged him to go. She and Dally helped his pack, and then saw him off, from the battlements of the city wall.
