During the Canadian federal election, 2004 he ran as a "parachute candidate" for the Green Party of Canada in the riding of St. John's North in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Although not a resident of the riding at the time of the election, Vokey is from St. John's. Vokey received 791 votes, the most of any Green Party of Canada candidate in Newfoundland and Labrador, to the 15,073 cast for Norman E. Doyle of the Conservative Party of Canada. He is no longer a member of the Green Party of Canada.
