Upon rediscovering his memories of his home, the attack of his village and discovering his parent's true murderer, Sulfur suffered a mental breakdown and became known for being very aggressive and depressed, having created a second personality to keep himself from panicking when pressured.[19] Only after reuniting with his father, marring Alice and having a son did he became calm and kindhearted.

Sulfur is an very serious and cautious character, who is rarely smiling. The only times he is shown smiling was when he is relaxed, looking at the sky, or hearing bad jokes. After the time-skip, he loses his second personality but obtains his personality as well as still his serious, but calm nature. Now he usually smiles when he's with his crew or is pleased that a plan worked. He still retained his reckless when his crew is in danger. For example he would go through the length of almost getting himself killed to save them. He's shown to possess a strong will, breaking through his own depression for the sake of others. Though he holds the name D. Sulfur, has a calm and tactical demeanor. He though would smile at death and believes that as long he's with his crew he will not die. However, he retains the famous Demon's blood heritage, making fearless in the face of death, as well as reckless.
