The nyctosaurus are large pterosaurs who are powerful fliers and so pil ot air-taxis over the skies of the pterosaur planet, Squawk Major. A pair of them took Teggs and his crew to the planet, but unintentionally put their lives in danger when they forgot how to fly and the taxi began to plummet. However, some quick thinking from Sprite, the dimorphodon, and even the alarm pterosaur ensured a safe landing. The puzzled nyctosaurus then gave the astrosaurs directions to the Palace of Perches.

Real Nyctosaurus had a two-metre wingspan and were from Late Cretaceous North America. Fossils have been found in Kansas and possibly Brazil. They most likely ate fish and insects. It did not have claws on its wings, apart from the long finger which provided wing structure, which means that it probably spent most of its life in the air. Nyctosaurus is notable for its bizarre, antler-like crest that was almost as high as the pterosaur was long. Its name means "night lizard".
