Previously, he played three seasons with the Hamilton Fincups in the Ontario Hockey League, and was a part of the Memorial Cup winning team in 1976. The Minnesota North Stars chose him 57th overall in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft while the Aeros picked him 46th overall in the 1976 WHA Amateur Draft. After retiring as a player in 1978 he spent several years (1991-96) as a head coach in the Western and Ontario Hockey Leagues, serving with the Prince Albert Raiders and London Knights.
