- The arbalest was a late variation of the medieval European crossbow. They were made of steel, set in a shaft of wood, with a string and a trigger, bent with a piece of iron fitted for that purpose and used to throw bullets, large arrows, darts, etc. Also called an abblast or an arcubalist. Arbalests were sometimes considered inhumane or unfair weapons, since an inexperienced crossbowman could use one to kill a knight who had a lifetime of training.
- The extra attack works with all ranged weapons, including firearms, and will be displayed as "Furthermore, you shoot..." while two shots are shown graphically.
- The term arbalest is sometimes used interchangeably with crossbow. "Arbalest" is Medieval French corruption from the Roman name arcuballista which was then used for crossbows, though originally used for types of artillery; Modern French uses the word arbalète, which is linguistically one step further from the stem (disappearance of the s phoneme in the last syllable before t). The word applies for both crossbow and arbalest (the latter may be referred to as heavy crossbow, but an actual heavy crossbow may not be the same as an arbalest). In some cases, the word has been used to refer to the people who actually used the weapon.

- The Arbalest is one of the Hacker disciplines, and focuses on disastrous attacks and debuffs. It can directly leads to the Ballista.
- [Source] The arbalest was a weapon produced by the Otoh Gunga Defense League and employed by the Gungan Grand Army on Naboo. General Tobler Ceel set up a training ground near Lake Paonga known as the Scrumma Jawbone, which served as a "shooting range" for arbalest, atlatl and cesta users.
- Arbalest (アルバレスト Arubaresuto) is a Crossbow that appears exclusively in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. The fifth and last Crossbow available in the game, the Arbalest possesses features that are characteristic of its other crossbow counterparts, including high Might and a precise Accuracy rate. This crossbow also sports a decent Critical rate that allows for more lethal attacks to be performed, a fact that is offset by its heavy Weight and low Durability, alongside it being a weapon that can only be obtained once per play-through. The fact that the Arbalest is obtained late into the game does not help its case very much, as this essentially renders it redundant due to the availability of units who are better off harnessing their high Strength with Bows. - Arbalests work better in large groups as they can fire arrow volleys at the opponents' units. Arbalests are very good at slowing down massed infantry, as well as inflicting severe damage. They are vulnerable to cavalry as they can close the distance with the fragile Arbalest before taking too much damage. As such they should be deployed with an escort. Pairing Arbalests with Halberdiers works especially well since the Halberdier can cover the Arbalest's main weakness that is cavalry. Pairing the Arbalest with other melee units can also protect them from siege units.
