In Malay mythology, the Gerjis is a gigantic tiger-like creature. Gerjis was rapidly decimating the animal population of the world, so the animals held a meeting to discuss what to do about the situation. Kanchil, the mouse deer (a small type of deer), was selected to come up with a solution. Kanchil told Gerjis the sky was falling and offered to dig a hole in the ground for Gerjis to hide in. The animals then buried Gerjis and had an elephant use a tree to crush Gerjis' skull.
