In the 1950s, the village expanded again accepting some overspill from the city of Glasgow during the slum clearances. This meant that new housing had to be built to accommodate these people and tenements were built on Milliken Drive, Craigends Drive and Fulton Drive. This also included a 5 storey tower block built on Fulton Drive, unusual for a village of its size.
