| - A child whose name is unknown, referred to as The Bespectacled Boy or Hakase-kun (Doctor) by Kyon, is a child living near Haruhi Suzumiya. He calls her Suzumiya-nee-san. He acts polite and goes to a cram school. In the future, he was expected to play a role in the development of the TPDD, the key piece of technology used in time travel. In The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina, one or more time travelers, presumably of Fujiwara's faction, attempted to run him over. Mikuru Asahina brought Kyon with her to stop this, making it seem a date (which they had to keep secret from Haruhi). Kyon dashed forward and rescued the child. Unfortunately for Kyon, the child did not forget Mikuru. He had seen The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00 and told Haruhi about this. As a result, Haruhi got upset about the time Kyon and Mikuru had spent alone together. In The Intrigues, Mikuru from the future sent Kyon a series of letters. One instructed him to acquire a turtle and drop it into the water, so the child would see the ripple pattern. This would stimulate his thoughts about time travel. The child adopted the turtle as a pet. Afterward, Kyon asked the boy not to tell Haruhi about this incident. In Editor in Chiefâ
Straight Ahead!, Kyon mentions him when looking over Haruhi's convoluted-sounding contribution to the anthology involving time-space, and wonders if, as Haruhi's neighbor, the boy might see the contribution and have it help him formulate the TPDD.
