Designed and developed prior to the Corellian Gunship, the CR92 Heavy Corvette is one of the Corellian Engineering Corporation's less successful forays into designing a ship of relatively small dimensions that possessed a weapons complement that enabled it to pose a threat against vessels of greater size. Using the same basic hull design of the venerable Praetorian-class Frigate to keep costs down (which was one of the predecessors to the CR series), the vessel was updated with new technology. Other subtle changes were made to bring everything up to modern standards.

Using the same basic hull design of the venerable Praetorian-class Frigate to keep costs down (which was one of the predecessors to the CR series), the vessel was updated with new technology. Other subtle changes were made to bring everything up to modern standards. Although not able to carry any starfighters, the design does have three docking posts in front of the engine array which are suitable for docking to any number of vessels from YT series transports to . However, the CR92 has proved not to be very successful, and facilities used for the production of this design were slowly turned over to other ships. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, the Corellian Gunship was designed and found much greater success. Since it was able to fulfill the CR92’s mission profile much more efficiently, it spelled a certain end to the CR92’s run. The heavy corvette is now a rare ship to find and is usually mistaken for a Class VI Freighter, or a Praetorian-class, due to the near identical appearances.
