  • The Great River is a river on the continent of Northamer that is known to be located between the Great Canyon and Knothole, though it apparently only needs to be crossed in certain regions in order to travel between the two. The Wolf Pack band of Freedom Fighters came across it while returning to the Great Canyon after participating in the final battles with Dr. Robotnik, and were forced to cross it using an inflatable raft. An Overlander once sat on the river's edge, though by the time of the Wolf Pack's crossing it had been abandoned. (StH: #67, #68)
  • The Great River is a river in the oasis that appears in The Brightest Star. It saves the residents of the Pride Lands from a horrific drought.
  • The Great River was an underground fugitive network created by Luke Skywalker during the war with the Yuuzhan Vong. It was created to protect the Jedi not only from the Yuuzhan Vong, but from those who would attempt to betray the Jedi to appease the Vong, such as the Peace Brigade. Involved in the Great River were a number of rescue fliers, such as Uldir Lochett and his crew. Working nominally under the New Republic Search and Rescue Corps, in reality they took their order from Master Skywalker himself.
  • The Great River forms the border between the Great Neck Empire and the Kingdom of Markand. It flows southwest from the tip of Zaraxasthof's Mountains, emerging from Zarak's Gate, one of the primary religious sites for the Twin Gods. It empties into the Great Sea at the Holy City of Aolrack.

In its early existence, the Great River network was a series of hidden routes and strongholds where Jedi and their allies could meet and take refuge from the persecuting Yuuzhan Vong fleets. Important locales for the River included Shelter, a space station owned by Lando Calrissian in the heart of the Maw, and Eclipse Station, an uncharted planet in the Deep Core that temporarily housed the leading members of the New Jedi Order.
The river itself is said to be holy, and the barge captains and ferry operators that ply its river trade require special religious dispensations to do so. Devout followers of the Twin Gods will not cross the fords of the Great River and must cross by either ferry or bridge. And since no bridge may have support columns sunk into the riverbed, the primary method of crossing the river is by ferry. The bridges that can be built are usually suspension bridges.
