Natasha is of royal ancestry; she is the granddaughter of Princess Anastasia Romanova, the youngest of Tsar Nicholas II's daughters and only one to survive the Russian Civil War. Natasha attended the Carpathian School of Magic from 1984 to 1994. While attending Carpathia, Natasha and her sister were part of the most popular group of witches and wizards in the entire school; the clique of pure-bloods led by their cousin, Dragomir Dumitru, who kept the Romanova twins' true blood status a closely guarded secret. Although her sister continued associating with the group out of desire to be at the top of the popularity hierarchy, Natasha actually began to act like the rest of her popular friends, becoming quite snobbish and cold even when not in the presence of the group. This created a divide between Natasha and Natalia, with the former eventually turning her back on her sister. Natasha was also known to be quite terrible towards Mateo Maximoff. After graduating from the Carpathian School of Magic, Natasha married her longtime boyfriend Vyacheslav Shostakov, whom she became engaged to before her graduation. As a result of the marriage, Natasha gave birth to a son, whom she named Alexi after her deceased brother. Although Natasha and her sister patched up their relationship, they never returned to the close bond they once had.
