| - This mode has Donkey and Diddy having to go through a level as quick as possible while gaining points while a timer is running, making them only have a limited time to get throughout the level. Points can be earned also by Donkey and Diddy defeating enemies, collecting K-O-N-G Letters, bananas, etc. They can also gain extra time if gaining a time bonus. The two pouncing on foes multiplies their score depending on the amount of times pounced. All of this tallied all up together results in a rank, due to the amount of points with D being the lowest rank and S being the highest.
- After selecting the level, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong will start with a default one minute time limit. The Kongs must rush through the level and gain time bonuses (indicated with a simple "+5", "+10", etc.) and reach the end before time runs out. Points are earned for getting Bananas, K-O-N-G Letters, Extra Life Balloons, freeing Animal Buddies and defeating enemies. Enemies killed quickly in a row will get their score multiplied by how many are defeated in a row (x2 for two enemies, x3 for three, etc.) Points are needed to get a high ranking in the end.

The two pouncing on foes multiplies their score depending on the amount of times pounced. When the level is won, points are earned depending on the tasks that have been done; five thousand points are added if both monkeys finish the level together and an extra five thousand points if the level is also finished with an Animal Buddy. Others include the Time remaining portion with a thousand points added for every second remaining after the completion.
The end score is based on the following rubric:
* Score (prior to winning)
* Time Left, with 1,000 points added per second remaining (10 seconds = 10,000 points, etc.)
* Buddy Bonus, for having an animal buddy at the end (always 5,000 bonus points)
* Kongs Bonus, for having both Kongs at the end (5,000 bonus points) The game will then add up the points and rate the player on a ribbon scale of "D-S", with "D" being the lowest and "S" being the highest, above an "A" rank. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest also had a time trial mode in its Game Boy Advance remake, though it worked a bit differently. It's name was also changed to Diddy's Dash.
