After Jerry's equipment was taken she went to her old friend, James "Sonny" Crockett for help, which he does by threatening DeMarco with "clearing his desk of all his cases and make his life one living hell". After that threat, DeMarco named Crockett as his partner in the bookmaking operation and the Vice cop was arrested by Metro-Dade IAD officer Ben Schroeder. Barbara got a call from DeMarco to meet him at a street corner, after which she was put in a car, later found in a pond, shot execution-style, possibly on the orders of DeMarco's boss, Albert "Al" Lombard. Crockett never forgave Lombard for Carrow's death.
