Macedonia, like Dalmatia, had a culture all of its own. It had civilization as old or older then Rome itself and the people of Dalmatia were very connected to their heritage. The acted Roman in public and to the military but they spoke their language in their home and sometimes in their Senate. They had strong ethnic bonds and a religious background that, though Roman Polytheism was accepted and often embraced, maintained devotion from many of the Macedonians.
