Ray Turner (1895-1981) played Dr. Hans Zarkov's servant in Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars. The character is tricked in by "Happy" Hapgood into revealing the location of Zarkov's secret laboratory. Turner appeared in close to a 100 movies and serials between 1924 and 1947; often playing the stereotypical black roles of the time: porters, waiters, bootblacks, and elevator operators. Turner's roles include a native in King Kong (1933), a waiter in Incendiary Blonde (1945), Horatio Jones in Blondie Has Servant Trouble (1940) and Harrison "Gravy" Randolph in Charlie McCarthy, Detective (1939).
