The socket for the key is found at the center of a circular platform with concentric grooves radiating out from the center like rings around a bull's-eye. When the key is first inserted into the center of the platform's notch, each concentric ring drops away in sequence until a conical stairway is formed, leading to the floor of the chamber. When the key is withdrawn, the portion with the notches and protuberances will separate from the rest, leaving behind a slender, double-edge spearhead.
