Jack meets Dulcie Froggatt on his new window-cleaning round. They flirt with each other and he starts to enjoy his work. Gordon Lewis puts his application in to the brewery for the Rovers. Bill and Elaine return from London to the news that she's to sail from Southampton in two days' time as a hairdresser on a cruise ship. Betty feels that she's too old to take on the Rovers. Jack spends the afternoon with Dulcie and enjoys Vera's attention when she feels sorry for him having worked all day. Rita agrees to go out with Tony Cunliffe. Mike advises Bet to apply for the Rovers licence herself. Never having considered the idea, Bet is intrigued at the thought. Elaine tells Bill that she'd rather marry him than go to sea.
