  • The typical rust monster measures five feet long and three feet high, weighing two-hundred pounds. Its squat body is protected by a thick hide that varies in color from a yellowish tan underside to a rust-red upper back. A rust monster’s two prehensile antennae, beneath each eye, can rust metals on contact, it then causes causes the target metal to corrode, falling to pieces and becoming useless immediately. Its tail is covered by armor plates and ends in a bony projection that looks like a double-ended paddle. Rust Monsters are related to the species known as Manavore.
  • Rust monsters are an ungodly aggravation. They don't do any physical damage, but they will rust your weapon and equipment pretty darn quick. The best way to deal with them is to either cancel them or to rustproof your equipment. Once you've done that, they're a piece of cake. If you haven't been able to rustproof your gear yet, take off any metallic equipment (or in the case of body armour, cover it up with a cloak). They do no damage so you can simply punch them to death while naked or wearing junk as long as there are no other monsters to bug you as well. A wielded unicorn horn also works well. Note they will eat daggers you fire at them but would like to re-use, so be wary; if they eat a rustproofed item they will spit it out rustprone.
  • Rust monster is a type of monster in ADOM. Whilst not strong, rust monsters are severe nuisances for PCs with (valuable) iron equipment. Whilst in melee range, rust monsters can use a special attack that targets any iron-made item that the PC has equipped; if the item is not rusty the monster rusts it, if the item is rusty the monster instantly destroys it. (This attack can target artifacts, but nothing will happen to them.)

Monster Memory
  • The rust monsters used to live in a lone mountain range in an outlying district of Ancardia. On one of their seasonal migrations, they were trapped in the Drakalor Chain by the forces of Chaos. Unfortunately, their new home is very ill suited to their health. Their diet requires a complex cocktail of trace elements, minerals, ores and metals which are hard to find outside their native biotope. With their acid-dripping claws, they try to etch these substances from rock seams in the dungeons, but due to a very poor yield, they had to resort to attacking every adventurer with a promising looking backpack. Don't let them touch you; their corrosive grip will ruin your weapons and armor. Be generous and feed them, and they will soon calm down.

Description
  • Rust monster is a type of monster in ADOM. Whilst not strong, rust monsters are severe nuisances for PCs with iron equipment. Whilst in melee range, rust monsters can use a special attack that targets any iron-made item that the PC has equipped; if the item is not rusty the monster rusts it, if the item is rusty the monster instantly destroys it. PCs can briefly pacify rust monsters by giving them items made of iron. Also, rust monsters can have their rusting powers 'cured' by throwing an oil of rust removal at them. Crossbow users should also note that if shot with a quarrel, the rust monster will catch it and eat it; thus this will pacify the target instead of damaging it. Rust monsters can appear in wilderness encounters once the PC reaches level 25, and tension rooms of rust monsters can sometimes be found on dungeons levels in the mid-game.
