Evolucionó a Marshtomp al llegar a Ciudad Portual, lo uso en el concurso de dureza nivel normal de Pueblo Verdegal de donde salió victorioso igual que en Pueblo Pardal, Ciudad Portual y Ciudad Calagua. Cuando era un Marshtomp en los concursos usaba un chaleco hecho por Ruby. Evolucionó a Swampert en Ciudad Arborada al decirle Ruby que se sentía culpable por no haber ayudado a Sapphire contra los Grumpig. Pero en la saga esmerald fue forzado a aprender el poder Definitivo de los Pokémon tipo agua Hidrocañon. Cuando Ruby conoció a Zuzu, en lo primero que se preocupó fue en pensar en que categoría de concurso lo metería debido, a que para él no era tan hermoso como Nana y Coco. Aun así se volvió uno de sus Pokémon mas queridos siendo de gran ayuda en la batalla contra Norman, su padre.
