Albert Sebastien Charles-Napoleon Bonaparte (born September 4, 1937; died June 30, 2006), better known by his regnal name, Albert II, was the 10th Emperor of France, reigning from 1975 until his death in 2006. At 31 years, his reign was the fourth-longest in history behind Napoleon I, Louis II, and his father and predecessor, Sebastien. Albert II was known as "Albert the Just" and "the Great Liberal," for his progressive domestic policies and for ushering in an era of openness in France known as the culture libre. However, many Cold War historians are quick to point out that Albert II was considerably more hawkish than his father, considerably more secretive and conducted disastrous overseas military campaigns his father would likely have avoided, and abandoned the gradual policy of detent
