| - Rolan (ロラン, Roran), or Lauren in the Japanese game, is a fictional character and recurring anti-villain in the popular manga and anime series MÄR. Rolan is a member of the Chess Pieces and holds the rank of Knight, of which he is the fifth strongest.

For most of its history, Rolan has been used in only two fashions; for mining and for military training. Only a small population of diehard settlers actually lived there. When the Empire arrived and turned the Laro system into an outpost, they largely left Rolan alone. However, they did upgrade the facilities that had first been established by the Laro government and created several factories and refueling depots.
- After his partner died, he became tired of him being the only one to suffer the tribulations of being a hero, he forsook his title and abandoned humans to their fate while he lived a quiet life in the floating town of Spelvia alone with a witch and his golems. When Yunita and Aire asked him to help them undo a witch's pact that turned the people of the town of Horne into stone he refused, but with the help of a witch and the Fountain of Hope they managed to enter his soul where they found a part of Rolan that still wanted to help people but he was afraid to do so because of the risk of losing another friend, they defeat some demons in their soul but that caused all of the evils to leave it and left Rolan's more evil self to take absolute control over his body. - Years later, Aire and Yunita (themselves Heroes of Light) ask Rolan's aid in lifting the curse on the Kingdom of Horne, but Rolan refuses, saying humans are selfish and vile creatures who deserve to die, and the golems in Spelvia reflect his attitude by attacking humans on sight. Yunita and Aire venture into Rolan's Soul and meet the last fragment of Rolan that has not been corrupted, who asks for their help and joins the party. They defeat the pair of monsters that were infesting Rolan, but doing so releases the rest of the darkness inside of him. Brandt and Jusqua, also Heroes of Light, arrive in Spelvia with Rekoteh when Aire and Yunita leave Rolan's Soul. The heroes confront Rolan, who has now been completely corrupted.
