- The Pirate Coast is a local district in the state of Odufaray in Kalistan. The capital is Port Redbeard. The Pirate Coast is mostly made up of two tracts of littoral Odufaray, but also governs the Pirate Isles, a chain of small, volcanic islands that run between Borkistan and Ananto. The largest of these islands is Public Pirate Island. The Pirate Coast got its name because it was independent of the Anantan Empire (predecessor of modern Kalistan) until 1834, and ruled by a confederacy of pirates. These lawless centuries of pirate control inspired the modern name. The strange, disjointed shape of the district is a result of its late conquest, since it was in fact originally a number of independent pirate port cities, rather than a single state. The Pirate Isles were conquered even later.

Much of the pirate culture remains, despite the fact that the economy is now mostly based on fishing, tourism, and shipping. Many natives still speak Gorpsprechen, the language of pirates. Pirate-related tourism makes up a large part of the economy, the largest draw being Formerly Secret Pirate Island, the capital of the Pirate Confederacy which resisted conquest until 1901. The Kalistani Naval Academy is located on Public Pirate Island. This is because the Kalistani navy, which had been defeated countless times in their attacks on the pirates, felt such respect for the pirates after conquering their public headquarters that they recruited all the captains to teach at a new naval academy built on the island. After the fall of Public Private Island and their mainland ports, the pirates retreated to what is now known as Formerly Secret Pirate Island. After that fell, the King of Gorpistan (constitutional monarch of the pirate confederacy) held out until 1932 on King's Rock, an isolated rock off Ananto. Today the Royal House Gorp survives, as the Dukes of Gorpistan.
