| - The Duchy of New Hanover (French: Duché de Nouveau Hanovre; German: Herzogtum Neu Hannover) is an independent duchy in personal union with the Vaniveran Empire. Declaring independence on October 16, 2209, New Hanover received international recognition according to Arundellan law passed by the Arundellan Parliament. Founded as New Hanover Precinct of Bath County in 1729, New Hanover was named for the House of Hanover ruling over Great Britain at the time. In 1734, parts of New Hanover Precinct became Bladen Precinct and Onslow Precinct. In 1739, Bath County was abolished and its precincts became counties, making New Hanover Precinct, New Hanover County. In 1750, the northern parts of New Hanover County became Duplin County. And in 1764, another part of New Hanover County became part of Bladen County to form Brunswick County. Finally, in 1875, the northern New Hanover County separated from New Hanover to form Pender County. Since then, New Hanover County's boundaries have remained the same. During the American Civil War, some of the war's closing battles occurred in New Hanover County. These include the Second Battle of Fort Fisher and the Battle of Wilmington. The Wilmington Insurrection of 1898 and its establishment of the John Crow laws ended the nineteenth century with civil rights injustices which would last until the African-American Civil Rights Movement through the second half of the twentieth century. With the collapse of the United States in 2209, several Southerners gathered in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. On September 8, 2209, with public support, Vanivere established a colony centered around Charlotte, North Carolina. This colony, Arundel, rebuilt the economy of Mecklenburg County and established a constitutional monarchy as the colonial government. By October 8, 2209, the Royal Colony of Arundel had grown to include the Carolinas, East Georgia, and South Virginia. During its time ruled by Arundel, New Hanover County became the County of Neuhanover with William Saffo holding the tile, "Count of Neuhanover". But on October 16, 2209, by an act of the Arundellan and Vaniveran parliaments, the County of Neuhanover was granted independence by the Arundellan Government and ownership of a small segment of land formerly part of Brunswick County. With complete independence gained, the people of Neuhanover requested the creation of a personal union with the Vaniveran Empire. Accepting Neuhanover's request, Neuhanover was reorganized into the Duchy of New Hanover with Alexandre II of Vanivere as "Duke of New Hanover". As a newly independent state, New Hanover has begun to build a better economy and has started beautification and restoration projects to increase tourism.
